Seven assembly seats of Uttarakhand on Election Commission’s radar, crores of rupees and liquor recovered

Dehradun: Candidates can play money games to win elections on the high profile seven assembly seats of the state.

The Election Commission has taken these seven seats on its radar. At the same time, double the amount and liquor have been recovered in this election as compared to 2017. Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya told in a press conference held at the Media Center that the Commission after its survey has identified seven assembly seats considering the strong possibility of using money power. He said that these include Sitarganj, Kashipur, Bajpur, Haldwani and Lalkuan seats of Kumaon, while Chakrata and Haridwar seats of Garhwal division are included.

From the point of view of candidates, Saurabh Bahuguna, son of former CM Vijay Bahuguna in Sitarganj, former cabinet minister Yashpal Arya in Bajpur, former CM Harish Rawat in Lalkuan, leader of opposition Pritam Singh in Chakrata, BJP state president Madan Kaushik in Haridwar, former in Haldwani Leader of the Opposition Indira Hridayesh’s son Sumit Hridayesh and Harbhajan Singh Cheema’s son Trilok Singh Cheema are in the fray in Kashipur. Broadly speaking, with these seats being high profile, there is a possibility of money power here. The Election Commission has activated the teams here.

Caught double the amount and liquor as compared to 2017

The story of the election commission’s action so far is telling the story of how money and liquor are being tried to woo the voters in the assembly elections. Chief Electoral Officer Sowjanya said that in 2017, liquor and cash worth Rs. Seven crore 31 lakh rupees were caught in 2019.

This time so far liquor and cash worth Rs 12 crore 27 lakh have been recovered. These include 3.5 crore cash, liquor worth Rs 3 crore ten lakh, drugs worth Rs 4 crore 70 lakh and jewelry worth about 24 lakh. There is still six days left, due to which this figure can increase further.
