Dehradun, 27 March, 2022 Selakui International School hosted Principals/Principals, AFS American Field Service Coordinators and students from 35 schools across North India from 25 to 27 March, 2022. Each school team consisted of AFS Coordinator and Headmaster/Principal. The Headmaster, Rashid Sharfuddin welcomed all the delegates/participants and thanked them for their contribution. In his inaugural address, he expressed his concern for the society. In his words – “In a world torn by conflict and intolerance, the programs of volunteers and AFS will help create more just, tolerant and global citizens.”
During their two-day stay, AFS members not only participated in various discussions regarding making AFS more active in social activities, but also IMA at the invitation of Commandant Lt Gen Harinder Singh. also visited. This tour was an eye opener for many members as they were able to see the glorious history of this institution.
The program with its dynamic agenda included engaging and spirited sessions by eminent speakers like Dr. Jagpreet Singh (Headmaster of Doon School), Dr. Sanjeev Chopra (Retd. IAS), Joseph Cook (National Director Interim – AFS) who attended the esteemed gathering. He urged them to ignite a vision of one of the fundamental pillars of the school curriculum and educational activities, taking cognizance of global citizenship and intercultural education.
The program in the form of blessings and efficient guidance of Dr. Sumer Singh and Jayant Hari Har Lal, mentor and advisor, AFS Vidyalaya Core Committee, also appealed to the schools to look into the important engagement programs for their overall development. In his address, Lal urged the AFS members to share their resources and understanding with their partner schools and to adopt the motto of AFS in actuality in their respective schools. The program introduced the ‘Valley of Words’, an organization working towards developing the art and culture of reading.
On the second day of March 27, the members of the four zones presented their five-year plans to the Central Committee and resolved to keep working for a better society with a better future.
On the second day in the concluding session, the President of the Vidyalaya, Om Pathak while addressing the delegates shared the idea of social welfare and how it can be done to help the large section of our population who are deprived of their basic needs. Huh . He also urged the AFS schools to integrate NEP in their future endeavours.
Vote of Thanks was presented by Mukul Singh Gautam who recorded the efforts of all Selakui Faculties, Mehak Singh (Bursar), Lionet (Senior Master, Pastoral) and Dr Sunil Rai (Senior Master Academic). The concluding session of the event concluded with a lot of good memories for all the participating teams.
