When the roses started blooming, some villagers started selling them in the temples on the Yatra route. This inspired other villagers as well and within a year more than 50 women from villages like Merag, Parsari Ganeshpur etc. got involved in rose cultivation. Apart from selling flowers in temples, she is also doing business of rose water. Demesk Rose has been developed in Palampur, Himachal Pradesh and its pen has been planted in Joshimath. This rose starts giving flowers in three years.

60 liters of rose water sold in Dilli Haat

Belmati Devi of Ganeshpur says that for the first time this rose was sold at a low price in the local market. But, then technical support was also provided by Herbal Research Institute Selakui (Dehradun) by providing a machine to extract water from rose flowers here. After this, for the first time, rural women extracted 60 liters of rose water from 50 kg of flowers and sold it in Dilli Haat.

Rose water sold for Rs 200 per liter

Told that rose water is sold at Rs 200 per liter. Today the situation is that the buyers of Delhi, Mumbai and other places sitting at home are reaching here and taking rose water. Presently women are preparing more than four thousand liters of rose water.

Animals do not harm rose plants

Maheshwari Devi, who is associated with the village Jai Badri Vishal Group, says that the rose plants are not harmed by animals because of the thorns. It can be easily grown on empty bunds in apple orchards. Janaki Devi of Ganeshpur village says that rose cultivation has taken the form of a cash crop with better yields in less effort.

The production of roses goes up to Rs 20 lakh per kg.

The work of increasing the income of farmers to the Horticulture Department can be done easily by the cultivation of roses.
