Chamoli. Due to fault in the transformer of the sewer treatment plant connected to the Namami Gange project in the main market of Pipalkoti, 16 people present on the spot were electrocuted due to sudden electrocution around the entire plant. While 10 people were seriously burnt in this incident. Seriously scorched people were taken to AIIMS Rishikesh by heli ambulance on the orders of CM. The incident is being told at 11.35 am.
According to the information, the work of sewer treatment plant is going on in the ongoing Namami Gange project under Pipalkoti. Last day the third phase of the plant went down. When the caretaker who was looking after the project did not pick up the phone since last night, his relatives searched for him and found out that he had died due to electrocution. During this, the third phase was added due to which current suddenly spread in the sewage treatment plant premises. Due to which a total of 16 people including outpost in-charge Pradeep Rawat, 3 home guards were killed and 10 people were injured in the accident, out of which 6 seriously injured have been referred to Higher Center Rishikesh AIIMS. It is being speculated that everyone got electrocuted due to the sudden spread of current in the railing around the plant. He said that the cause of the incident is being investigated.
With the help of senior police officers and local people, the dead and injured have been taken out of the plant. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed condolences to the dead and assured strict action against the culprits in the incident. The Chief Minister has ordered the District Magistrate Chamoli to conduct a magisterial inquiry into the incident. He had assured to provide helicopters to refer the injured to higher centres. After which the Chief Minister left for the spot from GTC helipad and he himself inspected the spot.
