The echo of the hills: Supreme Court Judges: The Supreme Court got 2 new judges on Monday. Chief Justice NV Raman administered the oath of office to the two new judges – Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Jamshed Barjor Pardiwala – at 10 am. Out of the sanctioned 34 posts of judges in the Supreme Court, 2 were vacant. Now both the posts are filled.

Garhwal resident first jurist
Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia has been appointed as a judge of the Supreme Court. Born in 1960, Justice Dhulia, 62, is the first Garhwal resident to become a Supreme Court judge.
Justice Dhulia has previously been the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and before that the Judge of the Nainital High Court.
Justice Dhulia, originally a resident of village Madanpur Patti Langur Malla in Pauri Garhwal district, practiced in the Allahabad High Court for many years.
Justice Dhulia’s father and grandfather have been eminent scholars. Father Keshavchandra Dhulia was a judge of Allahabad High Court. He died in 1985 while still in office. He was also known as a writer. He used to write in the Karmabhoomi magazine under the name Divya Chashu.
Keshav Chandra Dhulia’s father and Sudhanshu Dhulia’s grandfather Bhairavdutt Dhulia’s were freedom fighters, journalists and writers. He edited the Karmabhoomi magazine. Coolie was involved in forced labor and Quit India Movement and was sentenced to 7 years in prison. After independence he was elected to the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly.
Three or four jurists have reached the post of High Court judge from Garhwal region in the past. In which Vijay Bahuguna ji, Tara Dutt Uniyal ji and JP Semwal ji are also included.
Now Sudhanshu Dhulia has become the first resident of Garhwal region to reach the Supreme Court judge. Best wishes from the people of Uttarakhand to Justice Dhulia ji
