Delhi. On the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, Safdarjung Hospital, Delhi organized an awareness program on the subject. This covered issues related to disability, dignity of PWDs and their rights. The development of people with disabilities and creating a favorable environment for them in the hospital were discussed on the occasion.
On the occasion, MS Dr BL Sherwal emphasized on restoring the dignity of PWDs and integrating this community into the mainstream. He honored NGOs for their exemplary work, PWD employees, faculty and staff in the dignified presence of all Additional MS, Dr.Ajay Gupta HOD PMR, faculty and staff. A series of public awareness lectures on disability issues were also organized by PMR department at SJH OPD.
Dr Suman Badhal and Ashok OT used wheel chairs followed by street play and dance by BPO students to raise awareness on the subject. A public lecture on Cerebral Palsy Rehabilitation for Hospital PG was delivered by Dr Nonika Laisaram Principal Consultant. This was followed by a Question Hour session. HOD PMR Dr. A discussion on the subject was held with the PWD employees of SJH under the chairmanship of Ajay Gupta. He addressed relevant disability issues in the presence of Dr Sandeep Sharma, Liaison Officer, PWD.
Poonam Dhanda MSWO said the new initiative was appreciated by all. The PMR department is not only the nodal department for providing health care services to persons with disabilities. It is used to assess issues of access to the hospital. It works towards helping developing policies. HOD PMR Dr. Ajay Gupta said on the occasion that everyone has to be made aware on this issue.
