Dehradun, pkgnews24.com,The founder of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Seva Dal, Dr Jitendra Singh Shanty met Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Seni) on Tuesday. It is noteworthy that Dr Jitendra Singh Shanti, through his NGO Shaheed Bhagat Singh Seva Dal, has so far got thousands of unclaimed dead bodies cremated free of cost. More than 4500 needy dead bodies have been cremated by Dr Jitendra Singh especially during the COVID-19 period. For his humanitarian service, Dr Jitendra Singh was awarded Padma Shri in the year 2021.
Dr. Jitendra Singh Shanti proposed to the Governor Lt. Gen. Gurmeet Singh (Secretary) to conduct free funeral rites of the dead bodies of the unclaimed and needy dead in emergency or disaster-prone areas in Uttarakhand. Along with this, the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Seva Dal offered free transport arrangements for the unclaimed dead bodies and the service of mobile refrigerator mortuaries to keep the dead bodies safe for a short period.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (SE) appreciated the efforts being made by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Seva Dal. Establishment of a centralized wing of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Seva Dal in Uttarakhand was also discussed between Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Seni) and Dr Jitendra Singh Shunty. Through this branch, free van service for transportation of dead bodies during calamities and other emergency accidents, mobile refrigerator mortuary for protection of dead bodies, ambulance arrangements will be made for patients. Initially it is planned to be started in Dehradun as a pilot project. Governor Lt Gen Gurmeet Singh (Seni) said that even the unclaimed and needy dead have the right to be cremated with dignity and respect. Along with the governments, social workers and social institutions should consider this human aspect. The Governor said that during the Kovid period, the police and various social organizations came forward for the last rites of the dead bodies of the needy dead. We got to see many excellent examples of humanity. We need to take inspiration from this.
